Named after the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, England, the neighborhood extensively developed from the early 19th century with beautiful example of row-houses. From the 1850s, many factories and warehouses flourished along the Hudson River, while the eastern side of Chelsea was accommodating the first multi-story stores in town (Ladie's Mile). The decline of industrialization from the late 20th century converted the old industrial structures into nightclubs, then started to attract art galleries in beautifully renovated spaces. The quality of brick architecture heritage, the wide choice of social and culinary experiences make Chelsea a perfect neighborhood for strolling along the streets.
