New York is renowned for being The City That Never Sleeps, and nightlife has always played a preponderant role for the avant-garde scene. From the late 80s to the mid-90s, the site of a deconsecrated church became the epicenter of the cultural effervescence : The Limelight was born! In 1983, owner and promoter Peter Gatien, the "King of Clubs", re-designed the interior of the Church of the Holy Communion with a unique layout, including a VIP room. Some dancing cages were floating next to the original stained windows. A Shampoo Room was installed in 1991, as the music was shifting to techno music. Up the 15,000 people were turning up at the door every night, wishing to get in and crossing some of the many celebrities that could be seen there. In 2011, a documentary film Limelight was produced by Jen Gatien (Peter Gatien's daughter), describing how The Limelight became a legend.
